Fitting your new self-adhesive overlay on your device is pretty straight-forward. No special tools are needed except for a small Phillips screwdriver to unfasten any faceplate panel screws.
- Disconnect the device from the power cord and all other cables, and place it on a flat solid surface. Remove the potentiometer knobs by pulling them straight up. Some of them might require a bit of force to come off – a gentle but consistent force will do it.
- For Eurorack models, unfasten the 8 faceplate panel screws. Make sure to place them where they won’t get lost – they are tiny and have an urge to escape. Be careful not to tilt your synthesiser at this point, since the rack nuts might slide out of position; it’s tedious work realigning them…
- Make sure the faceplate panel is free from dust and grime. Dust will show up as little bumps under the overlay, and grime can make it stick less to the surface. If needed, wipe gently with a damp – but not wet! – soft cloth.
- Slowly lift one end of the self-adhesive overlay partly off of its backing sheet and align it over your faceplate. Make sure that all the apertures (cutouts) fit around the various sockets, buttons, LEDs and potentiometer shafts.
- Carefully fasten the exposed end of the overlay and slowly work your way across the faceplate, removing more of the backing sheet as needed. Take care keeping it aligned. It’s a snug fit, but that’s to make sure that the overlay looks good without any obvious gaps when fitted.
- If the overlay gets misaligned, or any air bubbles show up, gently lift that part of the overlay up from the faceplate and try again. The material is pretty sturdy and can be lifted and reapplied several times as long as you don’t pull too hard and stretch it.
- Once the overlay is all applied, fasten any panel screws and reattach the knobs by pushing them gently back on the shafts, plug your various cables and cords back in and you’re done!
